Primary In our primary department we have 3 classes – P1, P2, P3 P1 has 6 children P2 has 7 children P3 has 7 children
The primary department follow the Foundation Phase Philosophy, the curriculum is child centred and a play based approach to teaching and learning is adopted. The TEACCH philosophy is also embedded into practice and we believe the mixture of the two is a great combination for developing teaching and learning for the young children with Autism in Ashgrove School. We regard our outside area as our second classroom and we go out in rain and shine, our philosophy is “there is no such thing as bad weather its bad clothing.” The outside area is divided into areas of learning- such as fine motor, gross motor, sand, water, explorative, painting, construction and a blackboard area. The inside area is also divided into areas such as- workshop, creative, computer, music, workstation, fine motor and role play. The children access the inside and outside activities throughout the school day. We strongly believe in making learning meaningful to children by going out into the community to consolidate our learning. We always enjoy going out on the bus and have great fun.
